Last month’s earnings – September 2015

Monthly Earnings sept 2015

Every month I will list my online earnings from the past month to show that you don’t have to make a fortune to break free from the job paradigm and own your time, and to outline some various options for online income generation.

Keep in mind that some income sources might not directly involve the internet, but as they still further the cause of freedom I will include them.

Also keep in mind that I do my record keeping on a cash accounting method, so I only count the expenses and income for the month where they actually hit the account, not when the sale or purchase may have taken place. So for instance, the Youtube revenue was actually earned in August, but was deposited this month.

This was a great month overall, despite still not spending a lot of time with the online selling through eBay and Amazon.

Here are my results from September 2015 with some brief explanations:

September 2015 Total: $4,214.87

Online Sales: 241.53
This includes eBay sales, Amazon sales, and Bookscouter. This is a net total after accounting for inventory purchases, shipping, listing fees, etc.

I have continued my recent trend of not spending a lot of time listing items for sale online, and that is reflected in the amounts I have been making recently. It is still shocking to me how much I end up with selling online though, considering the tiny amount of time I spend doing it, and even after some more modest inventory purchases.

Amazon Affiliate Sales: $111.74
These are all sales made through affiliate links on my Youtube videos and websites. One of my best months yet for Amazon affiliate sales. Amazon sales tend to pick up as the holidays approach, and this is reflected in my affiliate sales revenue. This category is one of my favorites to report as it is probably the one I spend the least amount of effort on, and yet it is a consistent source of income, even if small.

Local Sales: $1,400.60
These are all sales that I met the buyer locally and did not ship the item. I used Craigslist, Facebook sales groups, and a local auction house.

Super strong month of sales of local items. Much higher than average.

Adsense: $1,174.82
I count the income the month I actually get it, so these are actually my earnings from August. Most of this was from my two main Youtube channels, with $4.63 coming from Google ads on my websites. This is my all-time highest month ever for Youtube earnings, so I am super happy about that!

To put this income in perspective, I probably spent less than 12 hours on Youtube related things in the entire month of September, yet I made as much as somebody working a full time 160 hours at a minimum wage job!

Not sure what exactly accounted for the spike, but it may have something to do with the recently enacted youtube program where viewers can pay for an ad-free experience and some of those revenues are shared with the content creators. Whatever the cause, I hope it continues, although I expect a slight downturn as I was very unproductive with Youtube videos last month, and just started back up again so there will probably be a dip in the revenues. $ 211.54
Another great month of Thermite sales. And this is after spending about $65 in labels for my products. The labels will last for at least a year or so.

Credit Card Rewards: $336.64

An awesome month for showing just what is possible with even moderate effort applied to maximizing credit card reward dollars. At this point I don’t even do any of the serious credit card churning techniques like manufactured spending, etc. I simply select the best card out of my staple of 4 or 5 depending on which will give me the most cash back for whatever I am buying, and occasionally sign up for a new card if it gives a good sign-up bonus.

This month $150 was from a signup bonus from a new card, and the other $186 are rewards built up from normal day to day credit card use. Free money taken from some of the largest banks in the world! What’s not to love? Unless you have trouble with responsible credit card use, there is no reason to leave this money on the table.

Rent: $538.00

This is a combination of rent, utilities, and internet payment from my girlfriend. Having a roommate that allows you to split housing costs is a great way to more easily and quickly reach a point of independence from the job paradigm.

While not strictly internet income, I include this because it also just gives a more clear picture of my income and what I am working with.

Other Earnings: $200.00
This was from using my Auctioneer’s License to call two auctions with a local auction company.
